What is a business loan affordability calculator?

A business loan affordability calculator estimates how much funding your business could realistically qualify for based on monthly revenue, time in business, and credit profile. It answers “how much can my business borrow?” before you apply, so you can plan around a sensible range instead of a guess. Results are illustrative, not offers.

How do you calculate how much a business can borrow?

This calculator multiplies the midpoint of your monthly revenue bucket by a time-in-business factor and a credit factor, then builds a range around that base: 70% on the low end and 125% on the high end, floored at $5,000 and capped at $500,000. The quick estimator on our homepage uses a simpler, revenue-only version of this model, so its range can differ slightly from the one shown here.

What determines the size of a real funding offer?

Three things dominate: the size and consistency of the deposits in your last 4 months of bank statements, how long you have been operating, and your industry’s cash-flow pattern. Existing loan or advance payments matter too, because they draw on the same cash flow a new payment would. Credit is weighed, but deposits usually count for more.

Why is the range illustrative and not an offer?

Because no formula sees what an underwriter sees. Two businesses with identical revenue can receive different offers based on deposit timing, seasonality, existing positions, and industry. The range gives you a realistic planning bracket; the real number comes from a free application that takes under 3 minutes and never affects your credit.

Worked example: where the default range comes from

Using the calculator’s default inputs, here is the full math:

  • Revenue bucket $25,000 – $50,000 → midpoint $37,500
  • Time in business 2 – 5 years → factor 1.10
  • Personal credit good → factor 1.05
  • Base: $37,500 × 1.10 × 1.05 = $43,312.50
  • Low end: $43,312.50 × 0.70 = $30,318.75, rounded to the nearest $1,000 = $30,000
  • High end: $43,312.50 × 1.25 ≈ $54,141, rounded to the nearest $5,000 = $55,000
  • Estimated funding range: $30,000 – $55,000

Two guardrails keep the range sane: the low end never drops below $5,000, and the high end never exceeds $500,000 and always sits at least $5,000 above the low end. Your existing monthly debt payments never change the range itself; they only trigger a caution note when they look heavy next to the revenue midpoint, because as a rule of thumb underwriters weigh what already leaves your account. When Knowing Your Number Helps

A realistic range turns “can we afford this?” into a plan.

Bridging a cash-flow gap

If payroll, rent, or a slow-paying customer is squeezing the account, knowing your range tells you whether working capital or a business line of credit can close the gap without overborrowing.

Choosing the right product

The same range can be structured as a merchant cash advance, a term loan, or a credit line. Compare the structures side by side before you pick one.

Worried about credit?

Revenue-based options weigh deposits over scores, so funding with challenged credit is often still on the table. See what underwriters actually read in your statements.

Affordability Calculator FAQs

How much of a business loan can I get?

Most revenue-based funders size offers from your actual monthly bank deposits, not just your credit score. Forwardfy Capital arranges funding from $10,000 up to $6 million, and the strongest predictor of your number is consistent revenue. This calculator gives an illustrative range from your inputs; a real offer comes from the 3-minute application, which never affects your credit.

What determines how much my business can borrow?

Underwriters read your last 4 months of bank statements and focus on three things: the size and consistency of your deposits, how long you have been in business, and your industry's cash-flow pattern. Existing loan or advance payments also matter because they reduce free cash flow. Credit is considered, but for revenue-based products it carries less weight than your deposits.

Do existing debt payments reduce how much I can get?

They can. What already leaves your account each month draws on the same cash flow a new payment would, so heavy existing obligations tend to shrink offers. If daily or weekly payments feel tight, ask about consolidating into one right-sized payment, and see the funding comparison guide for how the structures differ.

Does checking how much I qualify for hurt my credit?

No. This calculator runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing. If you go further and apply, checking your options never affects your credit either: the application takes under 3 minutes, offers typically arrive within hours, and you decide only after seeing real numbers. The FAQ walks through the process end to end.

Is this affordability estimate a real offer?

No. The range is an illustration built from the bucket midpoints and multipliers described on this page. Actual offers are underwritten on your real bank activity and can land above or below the range. For a walkthrough of what underwriting actually reviews, read what underwriters see in your bank statements.

Can I borrow more than the calculator shows?

Possibly. The tool caps its illustrative range at $500,000 to stay conservative, but funding through Forwardfy runs from $10,000 to $6 million. Strong, consistent deposits and longer time in business support larger offers. If you need more than the range shown, start the application and an advisor will review your actual statements.
