What is an equipment financing calculator?

An equipment financing calculator estimates the monthly payment on financed equipment from four inputs: equipment cost, down payment, term length, and annual rate. It subtracts the down payment to find the amount financed, amortizes that balance over the term, and shows the total of payments and total financing cost.

How do you calculate an equipment loan payment?

Subtract the down payment from the equipment cost to get the amount financed. Divide the annual rate by 12 for the monthly rate. Then apply the standard amortization formula: payment equals the amount financed times the monthly rate, divided by one minus (1 + rate) raised to the power of negative months.

Worked example: the default numbers above

  • Amount financed: $75,000 equipment cost with a 10% down payment. $75,000 × 0.10 = $7,500 down, so $75,000 − $7,500 = $67,500 financed.
  • Monthly rate: 9% ÷ 12 = 0.75% per month, or 0.0075 as a decimal.
  • Monthly payment: $67,500 × 0.0075 ÷ (1 − 1.0075−60) = $506.25 ÷ 0.3613 = $1,401.19.
  • Totals: $1,401.19 × 60 months = $84,071 total of payments, and $84,071 − $67,500 = $16,571 total financing cost.

The calculator carries full precision before rounding, so hand math can differ from its output by a dollar or so. Every figure here uses placeholder inputs for illustration only, not an offer.

Should you finance equipment or pay cash?

Cash is cheapest on paper because there is no financing cost, but it concentrates risk: one purchase can empty the reserve that covers payroll and slow weeks. Financing costs more in total yet keeps cash available, matches payments to the months the equipment produces revenue, and preserves flexibility.

A practical test: run the calculator, note the total financing cost, and weigh it against what the equipment should produce over the same term, plus what draining your reserve would cost you in missed opportunities or tight months. If writing the check would leave your cushion thin, check your working capital ratio before you decide. Your accountant can help you weigh the tax treatment of each route.

How is equipment financing different from working capital funding?

Equipment financing is tied to a specific purchase: the amount matches the equipment cost and the term usually tracks the asset's working life. Working capital funding is general-purpose cash for payroll, inventory, marketing, or gaps, sized to your revenue rather than to an asset. Many owners use both for different jobs.

If the need is broader than one machine, compare a term loan, a business line of credit, and revenue-based options side by side, or start with the plain-English working capital guide. You can also model factor-rate pricing on the business funding calculator, and find every free tool on the business calculators hub.

Equipment Financing Calculator FAQs

Are the equipment calculator results an actual offer?

No. Everything on this page is for illustration only, using numbers you enter, and it is not an offer, a quote, or financial advice. Real pricing depends on your business's revenue, time in business, industry, and bank activity. To see actual numbers, apply online in under 3 minutes: checking your options never affects your credit, and offers arrive within hours.

Is it better to finance equipment or pay cash?

Paying cash avoids financing cost but drains the reserves that cover payroll, inventory, and slow months. Financing spreads the cost over the months the equipment is earning revenue, so your cash keeps working elsewhere. The right answer depends on your cash cushion and what that capital could earn in your business: our working capital guide breaks down how to read that cushion.

What down payment does equipment financing require?

It varies by lender, product, equipment type, and your business profile, so we don't publish a single number. Some structures require money down and others fund the full cost. That's why the calculator accepts any down payment, entered in dollars or as a percent of cost, so you can see exactly how a larger or smaller down payment moves the monthly payment and total financing cost.

Do equipment loans use interest rates or factor rates?

This calculator models a traditional amortizing loan priced with an annual interest rate, which is common for equipment purchases. Revenue-based products like a merchant cash advance price with a factor rate instead: a fixed multiplier on the amount funded. The structures behave differently, so compare them on total dollar cost. Our factor rate guide walks through the conversion.

Can I get equipment financing with bad credit?

Possibly. Revenue-based funding weighs what underwriters see in your last 4 months of bank statements, monthly deposits, and overall business performance more heavily than a personal credit score. Checking your options never affects your credit, so there's no downside to finding out where you stand. See capital for bad credit for how challenged-credit approvals work.

How fast can I get funding for equipment?

The application takes under 3 minutes, offers arrive within hours, and same-day funding is possible once you accept. Underwriting typically needs your last 4 months of bank statements rather than a mountain of paperwork. If a machine breaks or a deal won't wait, read how same-day funding actually works for the hour-by-hour timeline.
